I have been a photographer for most of my life. I
feel the need – desire -compulsion
to capture moments from life and create images that reveal and preserve
things that may otherwise go unnoticed or unremembered.
Photography is all about light. When photographing
in nature the subject is chosen when the lighting exists to reveal the
image wanted. When I work in a studio or other controlled conditions I
can use artificial light and/or reflectors and baffles to create the light
I want. I use different lens focal-lengths and aperture settings to control
the zone of sharpness and selective focus. Composition is a result of cooperation
between the eyes and mind and whatever photo equipment is available for
use.
While I still retain a love of nature and nature photography
I have lately been exploring images of fire. I bring fire photos into the
digital realm of the computer to manipulate them. Selected areas of fire
photos are copied, mirror imaged, rotated, and joined together to create
symmetry and reveal unseen images.
Make a fire.
Look into the flames.
What do you see?
Flames and Smoke – Embers and Ash; What else is being
released from the fuel by the fire? Are there beings in there? Creatures
of flame, smoke, embers, and ash. Are they dancing there in the fire before
you? Dragons and tigers, fairies and aliens – creatures too ephemeral to
be seen by the unaided eye may be there. Look closely. Are there wolves,
warthogs, turtles, and frogs existing for fractions of seconds there in
the flickering flames?
Relax – Enjoy.
Make a fire.
What do you see?
