and an appreciation for handmade things has been a part of Dick Sargent's
life since he became conscious of the world around him. His father's cabinet
shop was attached to the home he grew up in. His mother sewed clothing
for the family and was always involved in one craft project after another.
Dick
took his first photograph when he was five years old and got his first
camera in the fifth grade (a Kodak Hawkeye Flashfun using 127 film). He
took many photos during his elementary and high school years for the sheer
joy of it. He bought his first "good camera" after his first year of college
(a Minolta SRT-101) and has been hooked on imaging ever since.
He
spent ten years with Sears Portrait Studio/C.P.I. Corp as a Sears Portrait
Studio manager, Director of Photography, and C.P.I. Photofinish lab manager.
During this time he said that he took portraits for a living and did nature
photography for love. His time as Director of Photography helped him develop
a problem-solving approach to photographic challenges.
Dick
worked for Harmon's Photo & Video in Ft. Myers for ten years from 1991
to 2001. His functions included designing and teaching photography and
computer imaging classes and managing the computer graphics department.
He was also Organizing Manager of Harmon's Photographic Society (an eductional
photo club).
In 2002 he returned to Florida
State University to complete two more semesters of studio art classes including:
drawing II, oil painting, and sculpture I.
His six and a half years
working at Target Copy gave him deep knowledge of the Xerographic reproduction
process and bindery skills. |
