Dick Sargent

Photographer, writer, computer graphics artist & internet designer.

I am primarily a writer and photographer, but know enough about ceramics and mold making to be dangerous.
I worked for my father pouring greenware on and off during the 70's between attending college, getting married, and moving around at various photography jobs.  Even though I was very mobile then, I found time to get in three or four years experience pouring greenware and making molds for "Wood 'N Ceramics", the family ceramics business.  The piece I most remember producing was a mold of my own right foot that we poured for several years as a "bare-foot planter".

Check out my book on making molds for ceramics!

I got most of my writing experience as Director of Photography for CPI Corp. in St. Louis, Missouri, writing and illustrating informational bulletins, technical manuals, and producing a newsletter/magazine that was distributed to over five hundred locations nationwide.
I lived on Ft. Myers Beach from May 1992 until October 2001 with my wife and children.  I enjoy reading, photography, computers, and writing.  I worked full-time at Harmon's camera store in south Ft. Myers selling cameras, teaching photography classes, and doing computer presentation graphics.
In October 2001 we moved to Tallahassee, Florida where I am pursuing a freelance career as a writer/photographer.

Susi and I have been married since August 1972. We have two sons, Johnny and Sammy, who are grown and have been living on their own for a while. Johnny is married and has two daughters, Samantha and Megan.
We both love to read, mostly science fiction/fantasy. Susi is a whiz at decorating ceramics and is addicted to talking on the telephone and watching television. I hate television and don't much like talking on the telephone. I prefer face to face conversations. I spend most of my free time using the computer.

Memorial to Mother:
On July 4, 2000 Susi and I had a few friends at our house on Ft. Myers Beach to celebrate Independence Day. We had a cookout and conversation from mid-afternoon until evening. At 8pm, under a slight drizzling rain, we walked to the beach to photograph the sunset and the night's display of fireworks. I took several shots of this incredible double rainbow. I had my camera set up on a tripod using a 16mm fisheye lens to capture the entire rainbow. A friend, Norman Bateman, was kind enough to push the shutter release to take this shot of Susi and I.

Crafts and Hobbies:

Drawing and other art - Although I am primarily a photographer, I also dabble occasionally in other forms of art.
Wine making - I made my first bottle of wine accidentally by forgetting some wild grapes I had put into a bottle.
Soap making - I learned to make soap the hard way, with lye and fat. Haven't done it lately.
Calligraphy - I have the world's worst handwriting, but enjoy using pens to create beautiful script.
Camping - Camping brings you closer to Mother Nature. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do much of it lately.
Ceramics - Susi is actually more active in this and better at it than I am.
Photo Decor - Decorating with photography is, of course, what you do after taking photos.
